Free Google Ads Headline Generator
Paste in what you sell and get headline ideas you can drop straight into a responsive search ad. Every idea comes back inside Google’s 30 character limit, so nothing gets cut off in the results.
How to use this headline generator
Type the service or product you advertise, then generate. You get a list of short headlines built around the words a buyer would actually search. Copy the ones that fit, then edit them so they sound like your business rather than a template.
Use the output as raw material, not as a finished ad. The headlines that win are the ones that answer the exact search, and only you know what your customers ask for.
How many headlines does a responsive search ad need?
A responsive search ad takes up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, each headline capped at 30 characters. Google assembles them into different combinations and shows at least one headline and one description at a time.
Google recommends running at least two responsive search ads with Good or Excellent Ad Strength in every ad group, and states that advertisers who already have two and add a third see an average 3.7% increase in conversions at a similar cost per conversion.
What makes a headline work
Fifteen headlines that all say the same thing give Google nothing to test. Spread them across different jobs instead:
- Match the search. Three or four headlines that use the words people type.
- Name the benefit. What the customer gets, not what you do.
- Show proof. Years in business, certification, volume handled.
- Make an offer. Free quote, same day, no contract.
- Answer the objection. The reason people hesitate, handled in six words.
If you can swap two of your headlines and the meaning does not change, one of them is wasted.
Why headline relevance changes what you pay
Google scores every keyword from 1 to 10 on Quality Score, built from three parts: expected click through rate, ad relevance, and landing page experience. Headlines feed the first two directly. Better relevance means you can hold the same position for less money.
Our post on improving your Quality Score covers the rest, and how much Google Ads cost has the benchmark click and lead costs by industry.
Where to get the words
The best source is your own search terms report. It is a record of how customers describe the problem in their own words, which beats anything invented in a meeting. Our guides to Google Ads copywriting and ad copy testing cover how to turn that into ads that hold up.
Our other free tools
Keyword suggestion tool finds the terms worth bidding on. Ad headline tester checks a headline against the character limits for Google and Meta before you paste it in.
Want someone to write them for you?
Writing fifteen good headlines for one ad group is an afternoon. Doing it across a whole account, then testing and replacing them every month, is a job. That is part of what our Google Ads management service covers, and our case studies show what it looks like when it works. Get in touch if you want a look at your current ads.
