Clickem Google Ads Location Checker

Check whether your ads show up in the locations you target.

How to use the location checker

Type the keyword you’re bidding on and choose the country. Add a city or state if you target a smaller area. Pick the language your customers search in, then click Search Google.

Google opens in a new tab as if you were searching from that location. Look at the ads at the top and bottom of the page. Is your ad there? Which competitors are bidding next to you? Do the ads match what people in that city actually expect?

For mobile results, choose Mobile and follow the short instruction that appears. Most local searches happen on phones, so check both.

Why your ads might not show where you think

Google’s default location setting, Presence or Interest, shows your ads to people in your target area, people who are regularly there, and people who have only shown interest in it. That means someone in another country researching your city can trigger your ad. If you only want people who are actually there, switch the campaign to Presence.

When your ad doesn’t appear in a check, the cause is usually one of these:

  • The daily budget ran out earlier in the day
  • The ad schedule excludes the current time in that location
  • The bid isn’t competitive enough for that keyword
  • The location isn’t in the campaign’s targeting at all

Don’t check your own ads too often

Every check is a real Google search. If your ad shows and you don’t click it, Google counts an impression with no click, which can lower your click-through rate over time. Search the same keyword repeatedly without clicking and Google may stop showing you the ad entirely, which looks like a problem when there isn’t one.

A few checks a day is fine. For anything more, use the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool inside your Google Ads account.

What a single check can’t tell you

One search is one auction. Your ad can be in position one at 10:00 and missing at 10:05 because a competitor raised their bid or your budget ran low. A location check tells you whether your ad can appear in a place. It doesn’t tell you how often it does.

For the real picture, look at impression share and Auction Insights in your account. Those show how often you appear across all searches, and who you’re competing with.

Want the research done properly?

Keyword research is the first hour of a build, not the whole job. What follows it is structure, tracking, negatives and testing. Our Google Ads management page explains how we approach that, and our audit guide covers checking an account you already have. Get in touch for a look at yours.
